Common Questions

What is World Monitor? +

World Monitor is a real-time global intelligence dashboard that provides AI-powered news aggregation, geopolitical monitoring, and infrastructure tracking in a unified situational awareness interface. It combines 500+ curated news feeds across 15 categories, dual map engines, financial tracking, and local AI capabilities into a single application.

How does the AI-powered news aggregation work? +

World Monitor aggregates 500+ curated news feeds across 15 categories using AI algorithms that synthesize information into briefs. The system processes data from 65+ external providers and APIs, including geopolitical, financial, energy, climate, aviation, cyber, military, infrastructure, and news intelligence sources. The AI component can run locally using Ollama without requiring API keys.

What are the different site variants? +

World Monitor offers 6 different site variants built from a single codebase:

  • World - General global intelligence dashboard
  • Tech - Technology-focused news and analysis
  • Finance - Financial markets and economic data
  • Commodity - Commodity tracking and analysis
  • Happy - Positive news and wellbeing content
  • Energy - Energy sector monitoring and analysis

All variants share the same core infrastructure but display different content sets and visualizations optimized for their specific domains.

Is there a desktop application available? +

Yes, World Monitor offers a native desktop application built with Tauri 2 for macOS, Windows, and Linux. The desktop app provides a full-featured experience with offline capabilities and enhanced performance. You can download it from our website for your specific platform:

The desktop app uses a single binary that allows switching between different variants in-app.

What is the Country Instability Index (CII)? +

The Country Instability Index (CII) is a server-authoritative stress scoring system that provides quantitative assessments of political, economic, and social stability for 31 Tier-1 countries. CII v8 uses multiple data sources including news sentiment analysis, economic indicators, geopolitical events, and social media trends to calculate risk scores. Higher scores indicate greater instability and potential for conflict or disruption.

How is flight data integrated into the platform? +

Flight data is provided by Wingbits, an advanced ADS-B flight data solution. World Monitor integrates this data to provide real-time flight tracking, including commercial flights, cargo planes, and private aircraft. The system displays flight paths, status updates, and can be queried through the command interface using commands like `fly LON DXB` to get flight information between specific airports.

What are the system requirements for running World Monitor? +

For the web application, World Monitor runs on all modern browsers with JavaScript enabled. For the desktop application:

  • Windows: Windows 10 or later
  • macOS: macOS 10.14 or later (Intel and Apple Silicon)
  • Linux: Ubuntu 18.04 or later, 64-bit systems

The desktop app requires approximately 1GB of disk space and 4GB of RAM for optimal performance. For local AI processing, additional system resources may be needed depending on the model size.
